I mainly focused on two sides of the planning process and that was the character himself and the environment or world they lived in, this was left with not much room due to the character having to have a western feel too it so the environment was difficult to try and be original with. But my plans seem to point towards a town that was run on a salvage and barter system much like the famous town in the cult classic mad max series called Barter Town, I wanted this kind of society to surround my character to build him and his characteristic's, because in that kind of world only the strong survive. The character himself i took in a slightly different route to the typical cowboy character that springs to mind when someone says western, by going for a native american bounty hunter because it fits with genre and time and also opens up a lot more ideas by digging into native american culture and history.
When it came to my silhouette thumb nails I tried to keep to the basic shape the same with a slim muscular native american character with the classic feathers in the hair and such, I did this to show that he is still in touch with his heritage, but as well as the native american style I also did some silhouettes with a more standard cowboy style with things like trench coats and boots this is to show the kind of clothes he will be wearing because he will dress like a standard cowboy but with native american twist through all the designs.
My mood boards were split between the character himself and the weapons and accessories he uses, the character mood board is heavily influenced by the native american culture and apache warriors but they are all for the base character design because most of the warriors are topless which doesn't reflect what I want for the character so that's why there is also cowboys with long coats and capes to show the clothing options I want on the character. For the weapons mood board the main focus was his primary weapons which consist of duel tomahawks to fit with the native american style I was going for and also his scifi revolver which I took a lot of inspiration from the weapons of the game destiny. he also has side accessories like a knife and boomerang which I also did show in the mood board to show what other weapons he has at his disposal.
